Remote working or work-from-home has become the newest wrinkle in our world of labor since the pandemic; if we aren’t productively steering our daily routine to adapt with our work schedule, it would turn out to be a burden for the soul.
There is no specific productive rhythm because we all have separate roles and obligations as moms, daughters, and sisters, and so may take turns. However, a productive schedule necessitates some meat and potatoes, which might help make your day more enjoyable.
1. Early birds and night owls
Not many of us are early birds; in fact, some of us are night owls who seem to be more alive during late nights. According to the research conducted by the Harvard medical school, early birds are inclined towards a go-getter attitude, whereas night owls are jet-lagged during the day and flowing during the latter half of the day. Our health conditions influence sleeping patterns to a larger extent than any other element. If you live a more robust lifestyle, indulging in yoga or working out in the early hours of the day, you might be labeled as an early bird.
2. Brain-food on your breakfast plate
If you’re not one of them, here’s what you can do: set the alarm and keep it by your bedside. Starting your day bright and early will give you enough time to make a healthy breakfast that will fuel your brain for the remainder of the day.
In terms of breakfast, you should try to include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and low-fat dairy on your plate, according to the Mayo Clinic. Start with a bowl of fruits and cereal, a cooked egg if you aren’t vegan, or a handful of soaked almonds if you are.
Don’t forget to include your beverage of choice; most of us choose coffee or tea, so customize your own version of it and enjoy a cup. A complete meal will furnish you with the vibrancy to remain in a vigorous mood and to be more productive.
3. Set your own deadlines
Don’t let your boss choose; seize your liberty and propose deadlines ahead of the one you’ve set for yourself. Meeting deadlines before their expiry may boost your self-esteem and put you ahead of your peers when it comes to finishing assignments on time. Stick to your schedule and prioritize your tasks; take short pauses for lunch or naps in between to avoid switching your work-from-home situation to a work-from-Hell one.
4. Unidolized to-do lists
Many don’t realize the life-saving mastery of to-do lists; they can remind you of an important phone call with your boss or deadline to pay your bills. Preparing your to-do list shall be the first thing you should do as soon as your drowsy eyes open; it helps you set a goal for the day. Use a sticky pad or your journal for staging and keep it right on your table so that you can steal a glance or two and tick off the ones you complete.
5. Organized workspace
An organized workspace can aid you in starting the day in a productive mood. Organize your desk so that you have all the necessary pieces of office equipment within reach. This can prevent you from running from an important meeting in search of a file. Prepare for the following day, the day before itself. This will save you some precious time to gulp down a coffee in the morning.
6. Time-track your work
“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” said Mother Teresa. The gravity of today is significant in her above words; it is important to track your work schedule so that they don’t overlap with your self-care or family time which is of equal grand. Since most of our devices have a time setting on our home page, do track the time you invest for completing one assignment.
7. How much sleep do you need?
Early to bed, early to rise used to be an unfamous nursery rhyme that we all had sung like a piece of cake, but little did we know that it would be toilsome in reality. According to the sleep foundation, women are more likely to suffer from insomnia than men though they sleep a handful of eleven minutes more than men as per the research study.
8. Reward yourself!
Relax your body and soul with a moment of relaxation at the end of a stressful day or week. Spend some time with your girlfriends or watch your favorite Netflix shows. You can meditate or do yoga to ease your mind. Self-care is very crucial in order to relax and alleviate stress. Lastly, doze off! Sleeping is an excellent remedy to cure a weary mind.
9. 20-20-20 rule
When working on a device, it is better to follow this rule in order to prevent eye fatigue. Set a timer for every 20 minutes; as soon as it rings, close your eyes for 20 seconds, look 20 meters away, then blink simultaneously.
10. Make sure your bed isn’t your office!
Avoid your bedroom as a workspace; you are more likely to fall asleep than to respond to your impatient boss! Waking up late does not allow you to work from the comfort of your bed, and it might even promote an unhealthy posture. The bedroom ambiance can cause drowsiness quickly, reducing your productivity.
A productive routine is, after all, the outcome of productive life; if you detect that you are not able to lead one with a work-from-home system, implement the above tips in your day and gaze at the vicissitude for yourself. We are no robots to perfectionism.
Our routine and a modification here and there would just do the trick. Along with that, remember to spend some valuable time with your loved ones, don’t sacrifice those moments for anything cause they are just irreplaceable in life.
