Amor y Mariposas

Melt Cosmetics Amor y Mariposas 20-Pan Pressed Pigment Palette ($70.00 for 0.705 oz.) is a mega-sized palette that contains two rows of eyeshadows and two rows of pressed pigments (which contain pigments not approved for use on the eyes by the FDA). There are six shimmery shades with the remaining 14 shades being matte in finish.

The pigmentation and texture varied a lot from shade to shade; the mattes were generally on the thinner side, but several were powdery to the point of being sheerer and/or having fallout issues. The shimmers, on the whole, were more emollient and easier to work with than some of the brand’s past shimmer eyeshadows, but they were noticeably thicker/denser compared to the mattes, so layering wasn’t always foolproof.

Cielito Lindo

Cielito Lindo is a light, minty green with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage, but the texture was thicker and denser, which didn’t layer as well with the mattes in the palette that were on the thinner side. I also found it harder to pick up product evenly with a dry brush. It wore decently for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Carino

Carino is a light green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was very finely-milled and smooth to the touch, but it was thinner and quite powdery, so it had a tendency to sheer out from semi-opaque coverage to semi-sheer in practice with a fair amount of fallout. It started to show signs of fading after six and a half hours of wear.

Sentimientos

Sentimientos is a medium, grass green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation, which was somewhat buildable, but had to be applied over an eyeshadow primer to perform decently as it tended to sheer out, blend unevenly, and have fallout otherwise. Michoacan is a rich, deeper teal with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic finish. Guamuchil

Guamuchil is a medium-dark olive green with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff, which was hard to build up; it was more medium coverage when applied over a primer. The texture was soft but quite powdery, which resulted in fallout. It lasted for six and a half hours before fading a bit.

Maria

LELimited Edition.

Mariposa

Mariposa is a bright, light-medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, almost cream-like consistency that was slightly thicker compared to other shades in the palette, though I didn’t have issues with picking it up or applying it to my lid. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Abuelita is a bright, medium-dark coral-orange with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff paired with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that was slightly thin and performed best over an eyeshadow primer. It stayed on well for eight hours and left a faint stain behind.

The texture was soft, finely-milled, and somewhat powdery, though it was blendable and had minimal fallout during the application process. It had opaque coverage that lasted well for eight and a half hours and left a stain behind.

Nueva Vida

Nueva Vida is a deep red with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff with a moderately powdery texture that was prone to fallout and sheering out a bit when blended out, so I would recommend using it with a primer. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Charro

Charro is a blackened plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was drier and very powdery, which made it difficult to apply an even layer; there was a lot of fallout, and it did not build up beyond medium coverage–even over a primer. There were signs of fading present after seven hours of wear.

Nube

Nube is a medium-dark purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied unevenly to bare skin and was more difficult to blend out, so I would highly recommend applying it on top of a primer at a minimum. The texture was drier and thinner, though not as powdery as other shades. This shade lasted decently for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Almohada

Almohada is a rich, eggplant purple with subtle, warm pink undertones and a matte finish. It was nearly opaque in pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that felt slightly drier to the touch compared to other matte shades in the palette. It applied evenly and blended out without too much effort. This shade stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours and left a stain behind.

Sagrado

Sagrado is a light red with warmer undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency was more emollient, which is unusual for the brand’s shimmers, and this made it apply better with a fingertip than a brush as a brush sometimes resulted in a more uneven laydown of product. It had opaque color payoff that wore well for eight hours on me.
